Sewing circle day - Saturday March 6

Today was the monthly sewing circle meeting at church. Its a wonderful idea - sew quilts for sick members and other that need comfort. But we really are suffering from a lack of participation. We had 3 help out today; myself, my stepmom Patti and Little Laura. I really should stop calling her Little but she is so very tiny and petite and so much younger it fits her.

We applied the batting and backing to one of the completed tops. We have it pinned and Patti started sewing on the binding.

We didn't get done today so we will finish it next month when we meet again.

Blessings

Kroger freebies and a picture of me

Today Greg & I went to the grocery store, Kroger. The past 3 days I have been playing the new Kroger Hoops game. Real easy you click on a basketball and it shoots into the basket then you win a really cool prize.
Day one I won a free California Kitchen pizza - it was automatically added to my Kroger card.
Day 2 I won $5 of a shopping order - it was automatically added to my card.
Day 3 I won a free Maxwell House coffee (39 oz or smaller) - it was automatically added to my card.

Sorry but freebies just burn a hole in my pockets so I had to go use them today. We got our free pizza (dinner tonight), we got our $5 off (sweet), I also used a Vocalpoint coupon for free Kashi cereal or crackers. Since we have 10 boxes of cereal I got crackers - similar to Triscuits. And I got a 35 oz can of Maxwell House coffee!!! (They didn't have 39 oz I looked trust me I looked!). I am so tickled with that coffee!!!

Total spent approximately the reciept is in the other room $70.54
total saved $55.98
percentage saved 45% just missed my 50% goal

Another Awesome trip to Walgreen's

Can you see why Walgreen's is one of my favorite stores?

3 pack paper towels (they were supposed to be toilet paper I didn’t read the package) $3
20 oz Diet Coke $1.59
2 6 oz Lindsay olives (I chose the black ones) regular price 2/$4, on sale for 99 cents each and I had a $1 off 2 coupon = 50 cents each. Also these are big cans so I will split them up and probably get 2 possibly 3 meals from each can
4 Nivea Lip balm ah my favorite deal regular price $2.99 each used a BOGO coupon so they took off $5.98 and then the Walgreen’s coupon took off $8 because they had them on sale for 99 cents.
Neosporin ointment $5.99 used a Walgreen’s coupon that took off $2 then used a $3 off 2 for buying Neosporin AND Band Aids
Band Aids Dora the Explorer on clearance for $2.69 used a Walgreen’s coupon for $2 off
So total for those 2 is $8.68 - $3 manu coupon - $4 Walgreen’s coupon = $1.68
Flashlight (we only have 2 – well 3 now - so I am stocking them as I find them cheap) $1.50
2 Right Guard deorderant BOGO $3.39 - $2/2 manu coupon = 2 for $1.39. Depending on the stash I have for the garage sale these will either end up there or in the donation box.
Colgate toothpaste $2.99 used a 75 cents manu coupon received $2 in register rewards = 24 cents. Another addition to the donation box.
Reach toothbrush on sale 99 cents each but they were out so the Manager sold me a 2 pack for $1.98 each and I used a $1 manu coupon = 2 for 98 cents. Donation box
Excederin migrane 100 count bottle with a free 24 count bottle attached $6.99 finally used my free Excederin coupon for $5.99 final cost $1.

Used my remaining $10 in register rewards from last week
Total out of pocket $4.51 - $2 rr for next week = $2.51

For donations I have the following event coming up: the youth of our church are going Downtown to hand out lunch and health & Beauty supplies to the homeless. They will appreciate the H&B supplies plus they have a food pantry so I can take any food items I have there also.

Recipe review - Picadillo

Sorry apparently I deleted the picture from my camera. this is another recipe from the Readers Digest Like Grandma Used to Make cookbook.

Ingrediants
1 pound ground beef
2 cloves garlic - minced
1 can (141/2 oz) low sodium stewed tomatoes
1 medium apple - unpeeled and chopped
4 large green onions with tops - finely chopped
1/3 cup raisins
1/4 cup water
2 Tbsp chopped pimiento-stuffed green olives
1 Tbsp chopped pickled jalapeno pepper
1 Tbsp vinegar
1/2 tsp celery seeds
1/4 EACH salt and black pepper
1/8 tsp ground cloves
3 Tbsp slivered almonds, if desired

Brown ground beef and drain off fat.
In same pan add all other ingrediants but the almonds.
Bring to a boil, lower heat to simmer
Simmer covered for 20 minutes
Add almonds (if using) and cook 1 minute more
Serve over hot rice

Serves 4 people

Results - not good. Greg & I did not care for the combination of ingrediants. I took it to potluck at church and they did not seem to enjoy it either. Won't make again.

Genealogy

In 1985 My former husband & I, son and other family members moved to Florida. We moved to help my Grandpa Harry open a Genealogy business. (BTW the business never took off for various reasons that will remain under the carpet). But Grandpa Harry did spark that little flame in me to know more about my family history.

Grandpa Harry took care of the Teems part of my family - my mothers paternal side. I remember growing up that someone had done my Fathers maternal side. So that leaves my Mothers Maternal side – Siewerts and my dad’s Fraternal side – the Logan’s.

I started with my mom’s family. This is a confusing but loving story. My mother was born to Eileen and Harry. They split up and Harry lived in Florida while Eileen stayed here in Ohio. Harry took one child – the oldest, James. Eileen kept my mom, Nelleta. Grandma Eileen got sick with Tuberculosis and was placed in a care facility. Her Dad (Grandpa Rudy) and his second wife (Grandma Kate) took in mom and when she was 2 she developed Rheumatic Fever. In order to provide for her, they adopted her but failed to tell my mom until she was a teenager. So the people I grew up with as grandparents were my Great Grandparents and my aunt was my Grandma.

Well sometime ago I created a small family notebook. It has the forms I printed and started and some notes that I have found. Well when I loved into this home 2 years ago of course everything got packed up and stuffed in closets. Well I decided to clean out a box that was in the bottom of our linen closet. Guess what I found – the original notebook!! (The black one in the picture) So now I have 2 notebooks (I’ll combine them tonight during TV time) and even some old family pictures.

Well then I found this packet in the box also. It is papers from one of my Great Great Great and possibly Great Grandfathers, Robert. He was in the German military. Now I can’t read these (gee never thought to learn German instead of Spanish) but what a find. I’ll check around here to see if I can find someone to translate them for me.

So what I know is that the family immigrated from Germany around 1863. I thought they came into Wisconsin but I can’t find any ports there. At one time I had a copy of the ships manifest but it appears that I lost it. I know they were one of the founding families that created my former church. And many members are buried in the same cemetery as my mom.

I’m lucky the main branch of our local library system has a very good Genealogy Department so next week I’ll be dragging my notebook down for some investigation.

You know your in trouble when . . . .

Its 2:23 AM and even the cat is sound asleep and won't bother you. The bird is asleep, the husband is asleep but I am awake!!!

I'm hungry
I'm thirsty
The trailer is dark
I can hear voices - probably the neighbors
I am awake

Good sleeps everyone :) Maybe I'll empty this box sitting next to me.
